U16's Half Season Report
The U16's finished up for the summer break this week , so it's appropriate to look back on the story of our season. You will recall we ended U15 season with a squad of 16 players fielding one team in the lower end of the NDSL leagues, at the start of the U16 campaign ,the squad grew, thanks to past players re-joining and new faces impressed with setup on & off the pitch. I am sure the achievements the previous year on the pitch also helped in encouraging new members to join the club. Thanks to the enthusiasm and commitment of Alan & the coaching crew, we were ably expanded out and fielded two teams .
Our vison has being to provide an environment to forest the talent and commitment of the squad into fielding two teams competing to the best of their abilities at competitive levels within the NDSL leagues, playing fair and showing good sportsman ship. Having spoken with the squad we extended our vision to not only play football , but play a passing brand of soccer with the ball on the ground, building from the back through midfield and creating chances for our strikers & wingers in line with the club philosophy.
At times it was not easy, not every pitch is as good as Paddy's Hill, the Irish weather likes to have its say, let alone the opposition and the odd referee , injures, school trips , Wright Disco's , GAA conflicts ,,but we got there with the A League team unbeaten in 8 league matches and pointed out by opposition managers as the team to beat, and the C League team shown they can do some damage when they have a full complement of its squad.
Training on a Wednesday's and Fridays , has always being very well attended and a good fun place to be .. (Even Alan has lightened up a piece ! ). On the pitch success has followed , the playing styles are developing well and both teams come into summer on the back of good league runs and in the top half of their respected leagues.
The wind down for the summer starts , with the squad being given free range to shoot at Alan (he will be the one in the High Visibility Jacket, kindly donated by the Squad ) in the paint ball outing at the end of June.
Finally, good luck to 90% of the squad who sit their junior cert in the coming weeks !
