An Evening with Johnny Giles - Thanks from Portmarnock AFC
Johnny Giles lit up Portmarnock with his visit to see the clubs training facilities, meet some of the young teams training and an evening where he told some funny and very interesting stories.
Johnny was amazed with our facilities up on Paddy's Hill and couldn't believe the quality of the pitches our teams get to play on week in week out. He also said how delighted to see so many kids out enjoying themselves training and took time to speak with them and pose for pictures.
Up in the PSLC he told many wonderful stories like how he went on trial to Manchester United aged 14, went over on the boat to Liverpool on his own, then onto a train to Manchester and it was only when he pulled into the station that he got nervous as he didn't know who was going to pick him up but the Man U scout saw a scrawny young lad with an old suitcase and knew straight away it was another young lad on trial from Ireland!!!!
Johnny fielded some questions from the crowd and was grateful to everyone in attendance as he thought the audience gave him a great reception.
A very special thanks to Johnny Giles.
Darren Costello and particularly David Hamilton must be thanked for all their hard work organising the event, getting tickets sold and advertised in the community for what was a special night.
Thanks to everyone who supported this special occasion and here's to more nights like this!!
