Portmarnock U14 Major 1 side came from a goal behind to record a well-deserved 3-1 win over Lucan United at the weekend.
The home side dominated the early part of the game and created a number of chances but failed to take advantage thanks to some outstanding saves from the Lucan keeper.
Then somewhat against the run of play, Lucan broke away to score the opening goal after Portmarnock lost possession in the middle of the field.
But back came the home side and after sustained pressure they finally grabbed an equaliser after a beautiful passing move down the left. Ben Smith slipped Nathan Redmond down the left, whose cross was turned home by Harry Collier who darted in from the right hand side.
The home team continued to play their attractive brand of passing football and created a couple more chances but failed to take them.
Portmarnock eventually doubled their lead before half-time when Nathan Redmond tapped home after a scramble in the Lucan box.
In the second half Portmarnock continued to push for a third goal but just couldn't find a way past the dogged Lucan defence.
But in the dying moments Alex Barlow put the game beyond doubt with a sublime finish. Racing onto a forward pass, he outpaced the defender and they lobbed the keeper with a spectacular finish.
It was no more than the Portmarnock side deserved as they brought the 'mini season' to a close.
They now head into the Christmas break, looking forward the proper season getting underway in the new year.
